Possum Ridge 5K - 6/11/11 - Taylorsville Lake State Park

Wow! My friend and I finished out first 5K this morning! Needless to say I am tired now!

I definitely did not run the whole way, but I did finish under my time goal.... My goal was to finish in under 45...  I don't have my official time yet, but it was no more than 42:32 (by the time I could turn my Nike + off)...

Proud of myself for finishing (proud of my friend too), but my goal is to do betteR! Next up (and I am very nervous about it).. but is the Bluegrass 10K in downtown Lexington.. July 4th! Wish us luck for then!

Running Update- Picture Purchase

I know this is silly... But I just wanted to share with you my new Brooks running shoes (From John's Run Walk Shop here in Lexington) and my new Half Marathon visor!

If I am going to be serious about this (which I am), then I need the gear to go with it. I've been running in my Nike + shoes and just putting on the Brooks shoes is a world of difference! They were expensive and almost hurt to buy, but I know they will help my feet and the rest of my body out a lot.. Getting fit for running shoes has been the #1 suggestion from all my running companions!

The visor.. probably not needed, but my friend and I got the same one! We thought it would be great inspiration/reminder for what our end goal is *besides being healthy and in shape*... It also is going to be part of our team gear! Then it will also help (hopefully) keep the sweat from rolling down our faces and into our eyes... We are going to try it out!

Day 17 - 6/8/11

Totally bummed that I skipped my run on Sunday.. I feel like I am behind now.. Then come to find out my stupid Nike + app hasn't been calibrated for my running yet.. so where I thought I was fast.. turns out I am slow! Haha! :-) Oh well.. now I know and will calibrate for running tomorrow..

My first 5K is this Saturday AM @ the Taylorsville Lake State Park.. My friend and I are running.. In fact, my friend and I are running the following (as of right now):

6/11/11 - Possum Ridge 5K (Taylorsville Lake State Park)
7/4/11 - Bluegrass 10K (Downtown Lexington)
8/6/11 - Midsummer's Night Run 5K (Lexington)
Sept Runs to Plan - Can't find a 10K in KY - Let me know if you have one
10/23/11 - Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon (Myrtle Beach, SC) - aka D-DAY!

We have agreed to stick together through this first leg of races (even in the half marathon).. That way we can support each other and get to know our strengths and weaknesses for future race support! We can do this! We also said we were going to find someone to take a picture of us at the end of each race!

Cannot wait to get the first race under our belt (or compression shorts for this instance)! Haha!

Wish us luck!

Day 11 - 6/2/11

I got up bright and early this morning! 5 AM! And I decided to get my 30 minute run in this morning! I would rather run in the AM instead of running in the evening with 90* heat and 70-80% humidity! Quite a scary run, but I survived.. Even passed my dad when he was driving to work... I think I liked passing him, just to show him that I am really doing this marathon thing! We are t-minus 8 days until my first 5K run at the Taylorsville Lake State Park with my friend Stephanie!

Might do the AM run more if I make it through the day!

Day 9 - 5/31/11

H---O---T ... H---O---T! Did I mention that it was hot! I knew that I couldn't run on my treadmill cause I need to get it fixed, so I was stuck running outside... I waited until 9PM-ish to start my 30 minute run today... Thank goodness because even though I started that late, it was still 78* F and 80% humidity! I was sweating like a stuck pig over a fire pit! OMG! I've never thought this hard about running through the sprinkler system out front watering my garden!

I was supposed to run 30 minutes today... well I went 30 minutes, but didn't run the whole time! I at least finished!

Distance: 2.25 miles

Day 7 - 5/29/11

OMG! I have been doing pretty good at this running stuff! Except for today... Today it was hotter than hell... I went running around 830 PM.. I only got .9 miles and had to stop.. what a baby! Not only was it hot and that made it very hard to breathe... but then I ran through someone's smoke from a firepit/fireplace and almost choked to death! It was not my day to run.. I still finished in good time..

Distance: 2.59 miles

Pace: 14'52" per mile

Day 4 - 5/26/11

Torrential down pour when you get home from work doesn't exactly equal running outside... Nor does a crazy hyper toddler who is attached to your hip! Being that I didn't even start to think about running until 9 PM, it didn't give me much hope for completing today's task (Running for 25-30 min)! I decided to run on the treadmill downstairs... went down there but the belt kept slipping on me and kept jerking my body around.. so I gave up and came upstairs.. Then my husband suggested using Wii Fit but it was taking too long to set up and then it would only let me do a short run.. and I don't know about you but running in place for 30 minutes isn't exactly my idea of fun!

So I grabbed my iPhone and headphones and told my husband that if I didn't return in 30 minutes, come looking for me.. I took my out of shape ass and headed out the door @ 9:30 PM! Not the smartest thing I have ever done, but I was back in 31 mins and 34 seconds (thanks to Nike +)!

I am definitely tired, but more proud of this run then my first. I thought I was going to walk for 10, run for 10 and then walk for 10.. but I ended up: running 10, walking 5, running 10 and walking 6 *until I got home*! Definitely a great start.. I feel much better about today!

I also found that when you run the timed programs (on Nike +) it gives you the 5 minute intervals (letting you know how much time you have left).... At 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 min marks, I clapped my hands and said you've got this! Self motivation! Gotta have some!

....I'm sure I'm going to hurt in the morning...

Day 3 - 5/25/11

Today was a day of walking..... Thank goodness! Ahh! I woke up this morning and my quads/hamstrings were tight! They were tight all day... even told my friend that I might need to get a massage! Haha!

Today David and I walked around our neighborhood! It was refreshing.. perfect weather and a good break on my legs!I know that walking 2.5 mi in 45 is a loooong time.. but we stopped @ my dad's and hung out with Bryson.. And on the walk back with Bryson walking.. we stopped and talked to our neighbors... added some time for sure!

Day 2 - 5/24/11

I am soooo tired! I was supposed to run for 30 minutes today and I could not make it 10! So disappointing.. but I have to realize that I am just beginning and I was running in our countr park.. Which is covered with hills and very few flat stretches! Plus.. I need to make sure I wear the correct gear for my girls! If you don't have the right stuff on then you FEEL it and it HURTS! Lesson learned... Tomorrow - Walking! Woot!
